I'd like to share with you one of my favorite client stories:

"I don't know what I'm going to do with the rest of my life.  I was an interior decorator for thirty years and now I'm sixty years old. Who will hire me, what will I do?"

The woman had tears in her eyes, and I could tell that she was at her wits' end. She had come to the large county workforce center that I worked at to file for unemployment, having recently been laid off from her job.

I had worked there as an employment specialist for several years, and had assisted thousands of unemployed and underemployed clients to either find a traditional job or to "think outside of the box" - to go for their dreams, even if that meant a job with self-employment.

I related well to many of my clients' concerns. I had also experienced economic stresses myself as a single mom raising three children.

I had worked many jobs to support my young family, and never seemed to have enough income. One day I read an ad in the newspaper, "Be a clown, will train." I was looking to supplement my preschool teaching job at the time. I was trained to be a clown from the owner of an agency who was a professional clown himself, and worked for that agency for sometime until I eventually went out on my own. I proceeded to entertain audiences of many ages in three states for the next 26 years, and still perform today.

Entertaining for birthday parties and corporate events was a wonderful way to generate extra income. For many years I still held a full-time job in the corporate world as a workforce specialist while clowning around on the weekends.

While I coached many clients in traditional job searches, I always had a burning desire to share the entrepreneurial route for creative and economic advantages.  So –

  • If you are struggling with frustration at making a living (or not) and wanting to find work using your talents and desires, then you've come to the right place.
  • If you need help with a traditional job search or want to brainstorm an entrepreneurial dream (or many dreams), then you've come to the right place.
  • If you are wondering what your calling is and have worked many jobs in the past that were not as fulfilling as you have hoped they would be, then you've come to the right place.

I know that I can help you. I have lived it. I understand. I found solutions.

Oh - are you wondering what happened to the interior decorator? I asked her what she loved to do, what she enjoyed learning about. She shared with me that she had an interest in holistic medicine.

I took her to the website of the local community college, and wouldn't you know, they had a holistic medicine certification program. I found funding for her that was available at the time, and she is now working in her own practice in a beautiful facility at a chiropractor's office.

Dare to dream. Go for it. I did, and you can, too.
